This great city has some lively activities to make you feel young and lively again. If
its strolling on beaches, playing sports, mountain walks, fine dining and great wine
tasting, this is the place to be. Although the city has only a hand full of theatres and
museums, the love of music is really strong, and the cinema is a real attraction down
here.Festivals and special events are very common.
Robben Island is now a museum, and previously it was formerly a prison for political
activists, and the great Nelson Mandela was locked up here.
In Cavendish Square there is a great shopping mall that also has a cinema. Also the
Waterfront as well as the Claremont, have great cinemas. The IMAX cinema is in the
BMW Pavilion in the Waterfront.
For theatre, there are two main places. Baxter Theatre in Rondebosch, as well as the
Nico Malan on the foreshore are great theatres. They host theatre, dance and music.
The Kirstenbosch Gardens is an excellent venue for live concerts, and also at the
Spier Estate where you can take your picnic. In Camps Bay there is a new theatre
catering for comedy and thrillers.
Jazz is the most popular music in Cape Town and the Green Dolphin in the
Waterfront is very popular. The Cafe Camissa is located at the Gardens on Kloof
Street and is also a great jazz venue. 169 Long Street is another jazz venue that is
always packed at weekends.
The Nightlife in Cape Town is quite cool. The Jam on de Villiers Street, as well as the
clubs at the end of Long Street, attract very large crowds. Another great spot is La
Med at Maidens Cove around Clifton area. But the largest of all the late night venues
is the Dockside at Century City. On 32 Glynn Street you will come across the Drum,
which is another great late night venue that will keep you dancing into the early hours
of the morning.
There is a great Theme Park at Ratanga Junction and it has been open since 1999. The
amusements here are great and especially the Cobra Ride, which is very exciting if
you do not mind your blood pressure going through the roof. With its own cinema, restaurants and entertainment venues, this place is fun for the entire family.
