The city has a superb tradition of cuisine and will surprise all visitors of its range and
choice of unique and varied dishes on offer in some fabulous restaurants. The old
traditional dishes of Europe and Britain were overnight transformed by the Malay
slaves who made their Cape Malay style cuisine the top favourite in the city. They
used the spices from passing boats. Lots of Cape Town's restaurants would have a
real Mediterranean and Pacific Rim influence on the local cuisine. Fish and seafood
play a major role in lots of the speciality dishes. African dishes are also becoming
more and more popular with the visitors.
Cape Town was called the tavern of the seas and its wine growing was very important
to the region. The local restaurants will have a delicious menu on offer as well as the
local wines to wash it all down with. What more could you ask for? To dine out in
Cape Town is extremely cheap and the quality of the food is second to none. It is
absolutely great value.
Along the beach at Camps Bay, there is the famous Blues Restaurant, which is very
popular. Also located here is the Villamoura fish restaurant, which also has a great
view over the beach. Near the main road are also some cool hangouts and less formal
eateries.
The Fortune Garden on Beach Road in Sea Point has great Chinese food. In Green
Point there is the Turkish restaurant called Anatolis, and Belugas is just around the
corner in the Foundry.
